We carried out the second round of research monitoring and cleaning activity of our European Environment Agency MLW (Marine Litter Watch) Marine Litter Monitoring study, in Sardala Bay. Under the leadership of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department Head, Mesut Önem, the officials actively participated in the event, in cooperation with the Kandıra Municipality, and the most noticeable was the disposable packaging waste! Although 2 months passed since the last MLW in the area, 597 pieces of waste were collected in 1 hour! 364 of them are plastic, and we found cigarette butts, glass-metal-plastic beverage bottles, bags, barbecue wires, masks, and gloves, especially disposable plastic, and paper products. All were plotted and recorded on European Environment Agency marine litter maps. We hope we find less waste on our 3rd tour trip... We are waiting for the news of those who want to join us in our efforts to protect the environment and leave a clean world to future generations!
