Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV)
The Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV) was established in 1993 under the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism with the aim of launching the Blue Flag Program in Turkey. It started its activities with the approach that the Blue Flag, which has become widespread in countries with developed tourism in the Mediterranean basin and includes healthy swimming water, equipped beaches, good environmental management and environmental awareness activities, is also important for tourism and the environment.
Following its establishment, TÜRÇEV became a member of the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEEE), as it was then called, and started its activities representing our country. In 1996, our full membership was put on the agenda at the FEEE General Assembly and was accepted as a result of the evaluation made. In 1998, at the end of the full membership monitoring period in accordance with the status of FEEE, TÜRÇEV's full membership was registered for 4 years at the General Assembly. (The monitoring period is essentially 1 year. Due to the meeting schedule of the FEEE General Assembly, the second year could be discussed). Since 2000, FEEE has changed its name to the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) by accepting members from outside Europe.
While TÜRÇEV started the Blue Flag Program following its establishment, under the umbrella of FEE, it started to carry out Eco-Schools and Young Spokespersons of the Environment in 1995 and Forest in Schools Programs in 2004 in our country. In 2011, the International Green Key Award Program started to be carried out in our country.
"TÜRÇEV" operates within the chain of General Assembly - Board of Directors - Supervisory Board and Executive Body. The headquarters of the Foundation is located in Ankara and therefore the executive body is located in Ankara and there are responsible staff in Antalya, Muğla and İzmir.
